About the Project

Coordinated by the University of Cyprus and supported by 14 consortium partners, FOCAL aims to establish theoretical foundations and develop engineering mechanisms for achieving optimal and interoperable end-to-end (E2E) functional composition of PQC-enabled systems across both provisioned and resource-constrained large-scale networked environments.

Why FOCAL Matters

FOCAL contributes directly to the EU’s strategic cybersecurity goals and aligns with the European Commission’s Recommendation on Post-Quantum Cryptography. It is the first project to address PQC transition innovation challenges through large-scale proof-of-concept pilots in critical sectors.

The Impact

FOCAL’s main impact is to protect European infrastructure from future quantum-powered cyberattacks. By enabling secure and agile cryptographic systems, the project helps eliminate the risks of quantum-enabled cybercrime across multiple domains. It also strengthens Europe’s technological sovereignty and supports the development of secure digital ecosystems for the post-quantum era.
